Live for Truth

Light in Darkness Guides the Way Forward

We are increasingly barraged in all aspects of our lives with partial truths and outrageous lies from advertising, news media, politicians, government and spiritual leaders, and even those we most trust. Honesty may be the best policy but we create untrue narratives to serve us by advancing our flawed beliefs and agendas. Truth has long been associated with light, honesty, enlightenment, compassion, positivity, love, and God. Truth is the enemy of darkness, authoritarianism, egotism, bigotry, hypocrisy, and deception. Devotion to the truth is and has always been our life’s mission. Goodness is found in truth.

We should be inspired by the message of Jan Hus, a protestant Czech priest, over 600 years ago, who was martyred because of his devotion to the truth: “Seek the truth, listen to the truth, learn the truth, love the truth, speak the truth, abide by the truth, defend the truth unto death.”

Our way of life and our democracy are similar to a living and growing child that is fragile and requires constant vigilance and care. Thousands of people have willingly died in sustaining this fragile being so that we can live our lives in peaceful freedom safe from aggressors and unencumbered by autocrats deciding what we must believe, how we must live, who we can love and which decisions we can make about our personal lives.

Live in Truth. Live in the Light. Live in Love.
